Assisted Living

A care setting for adults who need help with daily living — bathing, dressing, medication, meals — but not round-the-clock medical attention.

What they don't tell you

The middle ground between independent living and a nursing home. Average national cost is around $5,500 a month. Medicare doesn't cover it. Medicaid covers it in some states through waiver programs, but eligibility is brutal. Most people pay out of pocket until the money runs out, then they move.
