What the pattern says
Palmelle pattern checks · v1Mixed — a strong record with one number that needs an answer.
- Staffed like a place that cares. Nurses spend 2.1× the national RN time with each resident, and staff turnover is half the U.S. average — the opposite of the churn you see in warehouse facilities.
- No sedation pattern. Sleep-medication use is below national norms. Antipsychotic use is elevated, but paired with high staffing this reads clinical, not custodial — ask the medical director about their reduction program.
- The falls number is the outlier: 7× the national rate. 11.4% of long-stay residents had a fall with major injury vs 1.6% nationally. High staffing makes this surprising, which is exactly why it needs asking about: one bad cluster, a reporting artifact, or a real problem.
- Clean accountability record. Hospital-district owned — a public hospital answers for this building, and there are no fines, flags, or abuse findings on the federal record.
These checks are computed the same way for every facility. Good patterns and bad ones both print.
